As Medicaid Rolls Swell, Cuts in Payments to Doctors Threaten Access to Care – NYTimes.com.

I am surprised that some would even suggest that access and physician enrollment will not be substantially (and negatively) impacted with the drop in Medicaid physician payments for many states.  The impact of increased Medicaid enrollees in expansion states certainly strains provider schedules, now tie-in the relapse of reduced reimbursement insufficient to cover costs of care….we will see if standard economic theory fits here.

“We now have several hospitals that have closed, and all the hospitals in the state are hurting to some extent,”

Comment refers to Tennessee’s failure to expand Medicaid and the negative impact on state hospitals and access to care.  Article link identifies the non-traditional Medicaid expansion options that are available to states declining to access federal support.  Political pressure mounting as expected financial consequences mount for states.
